Live Well STLLIVE WELL STL: An Update MHI believes in the power of people working together and using information to achieve change. MHI brings together community leaders to improve health. It also gathers information on how many people in our region have certain diseases, how often they visit doctors and hospitals and the kind of care they receive. Through a community questionnaire, a half-day summit, and more than 50 individual and group interviews, MHI worked with more than 400 members of our community to determine a shared community focus on achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. Their input gave way to a three-part shared community plan for action recently approved by the Midwest Health Initative Board of Directors. Check back soon for updates on how MHI's partners are implementing this shared plan for community action.

LIVE WELL STL SUMMIT: More than 100 community, health and business leaders attended the MHI Live Well STL: Summer Summit.
After hearing the questionnaire results and engaging in group dialogue, more than 80 percent of summit attendees voted for "obesity" as the shared community focus. How to address this health issue that affects 8 out of 10 people in our region sparked some intriguing ideas and debate.
Participants also noted the need to make the focus as positive and preventive as possible, so it was tweaked a bit to a shared community focus on acheiving and maintaining a healthy weight.
For the next several months, MHI will continue to engage with community, business and health leaders to find ways MHI can support and add value to our community's efforts to address this important issue.
