Our Work With the Community

MHI is working with physicians, public health researchers and other community leaders to better understand trends in disease and treatment across our region. Through this work, we hope to learn about the rates of certain common conditions such as diabetes and asthma, how often patients are receiving recommended care for these and other conditions and whether patients are seeking care too late for it to be most effective.

For its first look at our community, MHI has focused on four areas:

  • Chronic conditions
  • Primary care and prevention
  • Women and infant health
  • Patient safety and missed opportunities

The last section examines situations where processes did not perform at their best and patients potentially could have received care that was safer, higher quality or less expensive.

MHI’s next goal is to work with its Board of Directors, Physician Leadership Council and Community Health Advisors to establish goals for improvement.

Live Well STL

Excess weight is one of our region's greatest health struggles. Nearly 70 percent of St. Louis area residents are overweight or obese. Thankfully, many talented people and committed organizations are working to address this problem. The Live Well STL plan, developed with input from hundreds of St. Louis area residents and community leaders, aims to strengthen existing efforts, and better connect them to each other and to those they serve.

The Live Well STL plan relies on the work of many dedicated community partners. Two of the plan's three activities will be led by cooperative efforts of MHI partner organizations. MHI thanks these organizations for their leadership and looks forward to celebrating their successes.
