Live Well STL: Physician ResourcesNearly 8 in 10 residents are overweight or obese. Almost 8 in 10 St. Louis area residents do not eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Approximately 1 in 3 St. Louis area residents spend none of their free time doing physical activity.
Through the Live Well STL campaign, MHI is partnering with experts, organizations and individuals across our community to address these issues.
Physicians can play an important role in helping patients understand the need to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Overweight and obese patients who discuss their weight with their physician are more likely to understand the need to lose weight, feel motivated to make changes and succeed in weight loss. Despite this, many patients say they have not had these conversations with their physicians. To assist physicians in helping their patients achieve and maintain a healthy weight, the American Academy of Family Physicians has created Americans in Motion - Healthy Interventions. AIM-HI is a series of tools physicians can use to improve the effectiveness of their nutrition and activity conversations with patients. It also has tips on how to create a healthier office environment and how to ensure the office is reimbursed for time and resources spent to help patients achieve a healthier lifestyle. For more information, click the AIM-HI icon below.
